Would you like to explore the Dutch countryside? On this day trip to Zaanse Schans, we'll travel from Amsterdam to a beautiful village with Dutch windmills. The most traditional sight in the Netherlands!
Day Trip Details
Ready to discover the classic rural landscapes of the Netherlands? We’ll meet at number 4 Stationsplein, across from Amsterdam Central Station, and from this central location we’ll travel north by bus.
After a road trip of just 30 minutes, we’ll arrive at the area where the famous Dutch windmills of Zaanse Schans are located. Situated on the banks of the Zaan River, the large blades of these wooden windmills have become a true Dutch icon.
We’ll take a stroll past these windmills, which reached their peak between the 16th and 18th centuries, while learning about their role in the spice trade from the colonies. Additionally, anyone who wishes can visit one of these windmills on their own to explore all its inner workings.
After exploring the windmill area along the Zaan River, we’ll continue our tour with a visit to a traditional clog workshop. We’ll discover how these wooden shoes, typical of the Netherlands, are made and learn why they have such a unique shape.
Next, we’ll head to a cheese shop, where we’ll enjoy a tasting of Dutch cheeses. We’ll sample a selection of the most typical ones, although there are hundreds of varieties, some of which are truly unique. Did you know there’s a cheese that tastes like beer?
Finally, you’ll have about 1 hour of free time to take a stroll through the village. Afterward, we’ll meet up again to head back to the meeting point in Amsterdam.
Depending on traffic, we expect to arrive at the meeting point between 3.5 and 4.5 hours after the initial pickup.
