The Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp is an unmissable sight in Berlin, which is a moving experience that brings you face to face with the harsh realities of the Nazi regime.

Tour Details

We'll meet at the indicated meeting point in central Berlin and travel to Oranienburg, where the camp is located. The journey itself is a reminder of how close the camp was to everyday civilian life.

Once at the memorial, we'll walk through the key areas of the site accompanied by a guide who will provide context throughout. Much of the physical structure was destroyed after the camp's closure, and many areas benefit greatly from an informed explanation.

We'll visit the roll call yard, where prisoners were made to stand for hours regardless of weather conditions, and the barracks, which give a sense of the overcrowding and conditions inmates endured. We'll also see the prison and punishment cells, reserved for those the regime classified as "special prisoners," and the infirmary and autopsy room, where medical experiments were carried out. The tour concludes at Station Z, the execution and cremation area, where the guide will explain the final stages.

Along the way, the guide will share specific details that help bring the history into focus, including the practice of forcing prisoners to march up to 90 kilometers (56 miles) per day to test military boots. We'll also visit the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum, dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives here, and learn about the camp's later use under the Soviet NKVD after 1945.

After approximately 5 to 6 hours, the tour will conclude with the return to Berlin.
