At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to start this day trip to Pantalica and Sortino.
After approximately 1 hour on the road, we'll arrive at the first destination of the day. Welcome to the Pantalica Nature Reserve! With its biodiversity, this space was created for the protection of Sicily's native flora and fauna. As well as that, it is home to incredible karst cavities, such as the Grotta dei Pipistrelli (Bat Cave), whose peculiar shapes are determined by the action of water.
Within the reserve, we'll also be able to explore one of the largest European necropolises, the Necropolis of Pantalica, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Just imagine, there are around 5,000 tombs dug into the rock!
Afterwards, we'll hop back into the minibus and head to the local village of Sortino, where you'll have free time to get a bite to eat for lunch. Then, we'll stroll along its narrow streets, dotted with baroque buildings, such as the Chiesa madre di San Giovanni apostolo de evangelista, the Chiesa di Santa Sofia, and the Chiesa della Natività.
The city also boasts various museums, among them the Casa museo dell’apicoltura tradizionale, which bears witness to the deep-rooted tradition of honey production, and the Museo Civico dell'Opera dei Pupi, which houses an authentic Sicilian puppet theatre.
After a 1 hour and 30-minute tour of Sortino, we'll get back on the minibus to return to your hotel, where we'll arrive after a total of 8 hours.
This activity includes pickup from hotels in Catania, Aci Castello or Aci Trezza. A day before the tour, we'll let you know the exact pickup time at your accommodation. Please keep in mind that pickup starts from 9 am.
