On this tour from Coimbra, you'll walk along the wooden Paiva Walkways, the most famous trails in Northern Portugal. Ready for this incredible adventure in nature?
Paiva Walkways Tour
At the agreed time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Coimbra and head to the river beach of Areinho, located on the banks of the Paiva River.
Once there, we'll give you some brief directions, and then we'll be ready to start our hike through the Paiva Walkways. We'll be hiking 8 kilometers (5 miles), which will take us about two and a half hours.
While we walk along the wooden walkways over the Paiva River, called passadiços in Portuguese, we'll learn about the geology of this beautiful natural site in Northern Portugal. We'll also talk about the local fauna and flora, and we'll find out why this place is very interesting for archaeology as well.
Halfway, we'll make a brief stop to rest at Praia do Vau. There we'll tell you how exactly these wooden walkways were rebuilt. The plan was so creative and innovative that in 2016 the World Travel Awards even presented Portugal with the Leading Tourism Development Project in Europe award.
From Praia do Vau, we'll resume our hike through the Paiva Walkways all the way to Espiunca river beach. We'll then hit the road and head back to your hotel in Coimbra, where we'll arrive four and a half hours after the pick-up time.
