Hike from Armação to Pântano do Sul, visiting Matadeiro and Lagoinha do Leste beaches, and climb Morro da Coroa for stunning views of Santa Catarina Island!
Activity Details
At the appointed time, we'll meet next to the Santa Ana and San Joaquín Church, in the Armação neighborhood. After introductions, we'll share some safety recommendations and prepare to venture into the wildest nature of Florianópolis. Let the adventure begin!
Our journey begins by crossing the footbridge over the Sangradouro da Lagoa do Peri canal to arrive at Matadeiro beach, which is only accessible on foot. The sound of the waves and the surfing atmosphere will accompany us as we walk along the fine sand. Did you know that this area was once a center for whaling? We'll tell you all about this curious past.
At the end of the beach, the trail enters the Atlantic Forest. Uphill climbs, downhill descents, narrow paths, and rocky sections will make this hike a true exercise in connecting with the environment. During the 10-km (6 mi) route, we'll make several stops so you can eat any food you brought, drink water, and admire the scenery.
Next, we'll reach the idyllic Lagoinha do Leste beach, a true ecological sanctuary. You can take a dip and explore its saltwater lagoon surrounded by typical sandbank vegetation. With a bit of luck, we'll see marmoset monkeys jumping among the branches, magpies fluttering about, and even otters playing near the shore. A natural spectacle like no other!
The next stop will be at Morro da Coroa, a natural viewpoint from which you can enjoy one of the most impressive views of the south of Santa Catarina Island. Here we'll take the opportunity to share with you legends and anecdotes from the region.
Lastly, we'll begin the descent to the Pântano do Sul neighborhood. In this last part of the route, we'll venture into trails in the middle of the forest with breaks to rest.
Finally, we'll arrive at the Artesanatos e Conveniência Gaia store, where we'll say goodbye after a total of 6 to 8 hours of trekking.
