If you're passionate about the world of engineering, then you can't miss this tour to the Itaipu Dam from Foz do Iguaçu - it made the list of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World in 1995!
Itaipu Dam Tour
Between 9 and 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Foz do Iguaçu and set off to the Itaipu Dam, a hydroelectric reservoir erected on the Parana River with a 120-meter gross head drop.
Once we get there, first, we'll enjoy a short 10-minute documentary about the history of this dam shared between Brazil and Paraguay. Did you know that Itaipu holds the title of the largest energy producer on the planet? Amazing, right?
The tour will continue to the Spillway viewpoint, where we'll be able to observe how the surplus water is released from the reservoir. We'll then stop at the main viewpoint to admire the imposing dam wall, made of concrete, rock, and earth.
Then, we'll learn about what makes it possible to produce 103,098,366 Watts per hour as we tour the power production building, the control room, the water outlet channel, and the gallery where the 20 generating units are located.
Lastly, we'll end this visit to one of the most important hydroelectric power plants in the world and head back to your hotel in Foz do Iguaçu, arriving at 1 pm.
