On this free walking tour of Funchal, we'll discover the history and architecture of Madeira's capital as we stroll through the old town.

Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll begin this free tour of the capital of Madeira in the Funchal Marina area. Without a doubt, this is one of the best places to start learning about the origins of the city.

During the tour, we'll take a stroll around the harbour, where the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum, dedicated to the famous Portuguese footballer, is located. Did you know that he was born in one of the humblest neighbourhoods of Funchal?

We'll also venture into the historic centre, where we'll see its most iconic sights. Among them are places such as the São Lourenço palace-fortress. This bastion was built between 1580 and 1640, during the Spanish rule of Portugal. We'll tell you about the strategic importance of this fort, considered one of the main military enclaves in Madeira.

Of course, we'll walk along Avenida do Mar, where we'll admire the exterior architecture of the Madeira Assembly and the Funchal Gate. And we won't end the tour without taking a look at the urban art murals and strolling down the oldest street in the city.

The tour will end after 2.5 hours.
