Beer and Chocolate Tour of Ghent
Welcome to the capital of East Flanders! As expected, this province in northern Belgium is renowned for its beer and its cocoa-based products. Would you like to taste some varieties? To begin, we’ll meet at number 3 Goudenleeuwplein Square, where we’ll begin our beer and chocolate tour of Ghent.
Throughout this walking tour, we’ll visit various breweries and chocolate shops in downtown Ghent, which may vary depending on availability. In total, we’ll sample 5 beers, a selection of chocolates, and a traditional liqueur. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Well, we assure you it tastes even better!
As we stroll through Ghent’s Old Town, where we’ll admire iconic landmarks like St. Nicholas’ Church, the Belfry, and St. Bavo’s Cathedral from the outside, we’ll discuss Belgium’s brewing tradition. To do so, we’ll pass by such iconic spots as the De Hopduvel, Het Waterhuis, Gruut, and Dok Brewing Company breweries.
Just like the bars we’ll visit, the tastings will also vary depending on the time of year. However, among the 5 Belgian beers we’ll try, there will be no shortage of craft, local, and aged Trappist varieties. Do you know what the key characteristic of the latter is? We’ll find out! As for the liqueur, it will be a variety of Roomer, made with elderflower.
As for the chocolate tastings, we’ll enjoy these delicacies at renowned chocolate shops such as Neuhaus, one of Belgium’s most prestigious cocoa brands.
Finally, after a 3-hour tour, we’ll wrap up the tour at one last stop in the city center.
