Chimborazo Volcano Trip + Balbanera Church
We will pick you up at Avenida Isidro Ayora Cueva at 3 am and start a four and a half hour minibus ride to the stunning Chimborazo Volcano!
Standing at a staggering 20,000 feet, the Chimborazo is the highest peak in Ecuador, and without a doubt one of its most beautiful landscapes. The snowy summit of the volcano and the incredible wildlife in the area have made this place one of the most visited natural attractions in the country.
Once we reach the first refuge, we will begin the ascent to the Chimborazo crater. During the hike, you will see wonderful llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas up close. You will also notice how the landscape changes and becomes more arid and snowy as we climb altitude. We will reach the second refuge, where you will have time to photograph the amazing landscape and enjoy this unique scenery.
After descending from the Chimborazo volcano, we will go to the nearby Colta lagoon, which offers a picturesque Andean landscape. As we explore the area, we will talk about the indigenous gatherings that take place on the shores. Finally, we will visit the church of Balbanera, the oldest Catholic temple in Ecuador, which you will see by walking around it!
After lunch, we will return to Guayaquil where arrival to the hotels is scheduled at 3 pm.
