Would you like to hike one of the largest and most active volcanoes in the Galapagos Islands? On this tour to the Sierra Negra volcano, you'll walk along its slopes and discover its unique vegetation.
Sierra Negra Volcano Day Trip
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel on Isabela Island to head towards one of the most active volcanoes in the Galapagos.
After a 40-minute bus ride, we'll arrive at the place from where we'll begin an 8-kilometre (5-mile) hike. Along the way, we'll marvel at the landscape covered by clouds and mist, which allows the growth of vegetation that we'll find.
Finally, we'll reach the edge of the Sierra Negra Volcano, the second-largest crater in the world. Then we'll walk northwest to find the Chico Volcano, a fissure of the previous one, which had its last eruption in November 1979. We'll stop to rest and have lunch consisting of a sandwich, fruit, and juice.
Lastly, we'll go down to the fumaroles located at the bottom of the Sierra Negra caldera as we observe the lava flows. We'll also see white herons and other species that inhabit the area. You'll think you're on another planet!
We'll then take you back to your hotel on Isabela Island, where we'll conclude the activity after 5-6 hours.
Hotel pickup
This tour includes hotel pickup from all hotels on Isabela Island, with the exception of Scalesia Lodge. If you're staying at that hotel, there'll be an additional pickup fee of 40USD per person on the day of the activity.
