Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in João Pessoa and make our way to Areia. The journey will take approximately 2.5 hours. Let's go!
Once we reach Areia, a city categorised as historical by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage, we'll go on a guided tour of its narrow streets surrounded by 18th and 19th-century buildings. We'll see how these buildings blend perfectly with the region's terrain, characterized by its semi-arid climate.
We'll then visit the Pedro Américo House Museum, which pays homage to one of the main artists from Paraíba. We'll then make our way to Casarão José Rufino de Almeida, the first mansion built in Vila Real de Areia. We'll discover who lived there and what trade they worked in.
Continuing our tour, we'll head over to Budega do Vavá. where we'll find spirits with different flavours and artisanal cachaças from Paraíba, as well as traditional sweets like Rapadura. Do you have the willpower to leave without buying a tasty treat? Next, we'll see Minerva Theatre, the first in Paraíba that also served as a stage for abolitionist struggles led by young idealists in the 19th century.
Hungry? We'll make a 1.5-hour stop so you can grab lunch at the rural restaurant Vó Maria, which preserves the tradition of cooking in wood-fired ovens and clay pots. Having re-energised, we'll make our way to the Cachaça and Rapadura Museum, which operated as a sugar mill in the 18th century. There, we will see the machinery and a clay alembic from that period.
Afterwards, we'll see the process behind the production of Cachaça Triunfo, where we'll taste some cane sugar juice and cachaça ice cream. This spot also has a lake with boats, perfect for relaxing. Here, if you wish, you can also buy some local products.
We'll end our tour at Casa da Farinha Pôr do Sol, which keeps the culture of regional products alive, where we'll enjoy a beautiful northeastern Brazilian sunset.
Lastly, we'll return to the bus to head back to João Pessoa. We'll drop you off at your hotel after a total of 13 hours.
