Priene, Miletus and Didyma: travel through history to Classic Antiquity visiting three of Turkey's incredible ancient sites on this day trip from Kusadasi.
Priene, Miletus & Didyma Day Trip
Having been picked up from your hotel in Kusadasi, you'll head south through the Turkish province of Aydin. Travel through time to the ancient city of Ionia, as this area of Asia Minor was known in Ancient Greece.
The first stop on your tour will be the Priene archaeological site. This historic Ionian town was one of the first cities in the coastal area of Anatolia to follow a strict street plan, designed with all of its public buildings within walking distance. Discover how its ancient inhabitants would have lived, visiting the remains of the main city square, known as an agora; admiring the theatre and the bouleuterion, the building where the democratic council of citizens would meet.
Continuing south, you'll visit the nearby ruins of Miletus, considered to be the one of the greatest and wealthiest Ancient Greek cities. Marvel at the vestiges of its historic splendour as you explore its theatre, temples and the other public buildings that were frequented by emblematic figures such as Thales of Miletus, a great mathematician.
Next, you'll head to the city of Didyma, where you'll have some free time to have lunch at your leisure. Next, we'll be visiting the iconic Temple of Apollo, which is thought to be one of the world's great temples dedicated to this deity. The temple was famed for its oracle... do you think they'd have been able to predict your future?
After exploring Didyma, you'll make the return journey to Kusadasi, arriving back at your hotel nine and a half hours after departure.
