Dachau Concentration Camp

With Hitler's rise to power, a camp for political prisoners was established in Dachau, and it continued to operate for 12 long years. The main installations were completed in March 1933, with the first prisoners arriving the next day. Over 200,000 prisoners passed through the camp, of whom over 40,000 were assassinated.

After meeting the guide on Dachauer Straße on the morning of the tour, we'll travel to the Dachau concentration camp, found 20 kilometres (12 miles) to the north of Munich. This journey involves taking a train and a bus, and will take around 40 minutes in total.

Once there we'll pass through the same gate the prisoners once did, and pass through the courtyard, the entrance hall, the bathrooms, the prison, the barracks, the gas chamber and the cremation ovens, as well as the different commemorative monuments.

Having learned about the day-to-day life of the prisoners in the concentration camp, and having gained an insight into one of the darkest periods of German history, we'll make the 40-minute journey back to Munich. We'll arrive back in the city after between 4 and 5 hours in total.
