Day Trip to Pompeii

On the day of the activity, we'll depart from the center of Naples and head out on the bus to the archaeological site of Pompeii.

After a drive of approximately 40 minutes, we'll arrive at the remains of the ancient Roman city. On August 24, in the year 79 A.C., emperor Tito received one of the worst pieces of news during his reign. Vesuvius had unleashed its fury upon Stabiae, Herculaneum, and Pompei. We'll learn of the devastating effects of the volcano on this last city, passing through its streets, and marveling at how the ashes covered a large part of the urban center.

The city was totally buried and forgotten until the 18th century. We'll explain the story of how the town was rediscovered thanks in part to the excavations sponsored by the future king of Spain, Carlos III. On our tour, we'll pass through the forum where the Romans met and traded.

What's more, we'll learn about their way of life by visiting the remains of public buildings such as the baths or the lupanar, decorated with frescoes depicting erotic scenes. In the theater, we'll see the remains of an enclosure that still echoes with the liturgical and bloody representations of the time.

After this 2-hour tour of Pompeii, we'll begin the return journey to the pickup point in Naples, where this activity will conclude. The total duration will be between 3.5 hours to 4.5 hours.

Pickup Points

This day trip includes pickup at the following points:

Hotels in the center of Naples: in this case, you'll need to specify the name and address of your accommodation.
Train station in Napoli Centrale: the best option if you arrive at Naples from other locations in Italy.
Cruise Terminal in Naples Port: perfect if you arrive at the capital of Campania in a boat. This option is available exclusively for cruise passengers.

Please note that if you choose the departure time at 7:45 am or 8 am, the only pickup points will be the following:

Cruise terminal of the Port of Naples: at Beverello pier, next to the Pícnic bar
Hotel Starhotels Terminus, at Piazza Garibaldi, 91

Important Info

This tour only includes port pickup for cruise passengers. If you're staying in Naples, you'll be picked up at your hotel or the train station.

English-Speaking Guide

This day trip includes an English-speaking guide. However, depending on availability, if during the low season (November to March) the group consists of fewer than 6 people, the tour of the Pompeii site may be conducted with an audioguide in English instead of a guide.
