The Holy Chamber, the cloister, the High Altarpiece... On this private tour of the Oviedo Cathedral, you'll explore the interior of the Sancta Ovetensia, dedicated to San Salvador.
Cathedral of San Salvador Private Tour
We'll meet in Plaza de Alfonso II El Casto to begin our private tour of the Cathedral of San Salvador.
On this tour to Oviedo Cathedral, also known as Sancta Ovetensis, we'll first see the High Altarpiece, which dates from the 16th century and is considered one of the most important in Spain.
Next, we'll go to the Cámara Santa (Holy Chamber) to see the Santa Sudario (Holy Shroud) and other treasures such as the Victory Cross. The tour will continue in the cloister and the crypt of Saint Leocadia.
We'll also stop at the Pilgrims' Cemetery, the only point from which we can contemplate the apse of the Gothic cathedral and the Sala Capitular (Chapter House). Did you know that the seat of the former General Assembly of the Principality of Asturias was located there?
Of course, we'll also talk about the Camino Primitivo de Santiago, which begins in Oviedo, and the saying, "Quien va a Santiago y no a San Salvador, visita al criado y no al Señor," which means "Those who go to Santiago and not to San Salvador, visit the servant and not the Lord."
We'll also visit important chapels such as Saint Eulalia, patron saint of the diocese, the city of Oviedo, and the Principality of Asturias.
Finally, we'll conclude this private 1.5-hour tour outside the church.
Tickets Not Included
