Tour Options
When you make your booking, you can choose from a range of different routes. All of them will start at the time indicated at Praia do Pontal and include an English-speaking guide, kayaking equipment and safety gear.
Below, we’ve set out what each route involves. Please note that all itineraries last 2 hours:
Tour of The Mangroves and Pombas Island
This 2-hour kayaking adventure allows you to explore the natural surroundings of Paraty Bay, combining the sea, mangroves, and tropical landscapes. The tour begins at Praia do Pontal with a safety and instruction session.
The journey begins by paddling towards Jabaquara, leaving the town behind to venture into the coastal vegetation. The route takes you deep into the Paraty mangroves via its channels, offering a close-up and intimate view of this ecosystem.
During the mangrove tour, you may spot birds, crabs and, occasionally, capybaras in their natural habitat. We'll then return to the open sea, heading towards Pombas Island, a small islet characterised by its tropical vegetation, including bromeliads and cacti.
The return journey to Praia do Pontal offers panoramic views of the bay and the mountains covered by the Atlantic Forest, concluding the tour at the same starting point.
Times: This tour starts at 9 am.
Tour of the Perequê-Açu River
From the meeting point, we’ll head towards the Perequê-Açu River to begin a journey that combines nature, culture, and history. Accompanied by a local guide, we’ll learn about the river’s connection to the development of Paraty and its importance to the life of the town over the years.
As we travel upstream, the landscape will reveal another side of Paraty. We’ll cruise peacefully along the riverbanks, observing the vegetation and discovering the rich biodiversity of the Perequê-Açu ecosystem.
During the tour, we’ll be able to spot different species of birds, fish, and vegetation typical of the riverbanks, as well as learn interesting facts about aquatic life and the natural balance of this environment.
And you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled: with a bit of luck, you might spot capybaras, which inhabit the region and can sometimes be seen in groups near the banks. You may also come across various birds and other wildlife. As they roam freely, sightings depend on nature and cannot be guaranteed.
Times: This tour starts at 9 am.
Sunrise Tour
This experience invites you to watch the sunrise over Paraty Bay on a morning kayak trip.
As we row, we can watch the colours of the sky change and admire the golden reflections on the water whilst the town comes to life. The journey takes place in a peaceful atmosphere, accompanied by the sound of the sea and the song of local birds.
The highlight of the adventure is watching the sunrise out on the open sea, providing the perfect setting for taking photographs and connecting with Paraty’s distinctive wildlife and landscape.
Times: This tour starts at 5 am.
Sunset Tour
This tour offers the chance to explore Paraty Bay by kayak in the late afternoon to witness the sunset over the sea and the mountains. The activity is suitable for all ages and does not require any previous paddling experience.
The trip begins at Praia do Pontal with a session covering basic paddling instructions and safety rules. We'll then paddle towards Ilha do Pombo and Praia do Jabaquara, surrounded by the area’s characteristic tropical landscape.
Next, we’ll head towards the mouth of the Perequê-Açu River, a point where the river, the bay and the coastal vegetation converge. Along the route, you may spot various species of birds, fish, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
On the way back to Praia do Pontal, you can enjoy the sunset, as its colours are reflected in the water. The experience ends at the beach where it began, offering a peaceful setting that is ideal for landscape photography.
