Leave Pisciotta behind for this excursion to Paestum, one of the most significant archaeological sites in Italy!
Paestum Tour
After meeting at your selected point, we'll hit the road by minibus to the archaeological site of Paestum, where we'll discover three Doric temples dedicated to Hera and Athena.
Once we arrive in Paestum, we'll begin to walk through the archaeological park to learn about its origins. Did you know that this city of Magna Graecia was founded under the name of Poseidonia, in honor of Poseidon? First, we'll visit the Temple of Hera I, a building of the Doric order dating back to 550 BC dedicated to this goddess of family and fertility.
Next, we'll get to know the Temple of Neptune, also called the Temple of Hera II, the largest temple in Paestum. Then, it'll be time to check out the Temple of Athena, a smaller construction once known as the Temple of Ceres.
After visiting the archaeological site, we'll head to the park's museum, where we'll learn about the vast collection of artifacts brought to light during the excavations of Paestum. Pottery, weapons, frescoed tombstones and grave goods from the Greek and Lucanian necropolis... A real artistic and historical treasure!
Of course, we'll also admire the famous frescoes of the famous Tomb of the Diver. These incredible funerary slabs are unique in the world, being the only surviving example of Greek painting with figurative scenes.
After four hours of exploring, we'll return to Pisciotta and take you back to the starting point.
