Day Trip Details
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Porto and begin a tour to Braga and Guimarães with no more than 8 people per group. It's a truly exclusive way to discover the best of northern Portugal!
We'll travel by minibus to Braga, the first stop of the day. Upon arrival, we'll begin exploring the "Portuguese Rome," a charming city steeped in history and filled with monuments that will leave you speechless. To start, we'll visit the unmistakable Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, whose Baroque staircase is one of the most iconic sights in all of Portugal.
After admiring this religious monument, we'll head to Braga Cathedral, where we'll explore Portugal's oldest cathedral. We'll admire its architecture, which perfectly blends different styles ranging from Romanesque to Baroque.
Next, we'll stroll through Braga's old town to continue exploring the city. The Archiepiscopal Palace of Braga, the Praça da República, and the Arco da Porta Nova will all be included in this tour.
After exploring Braga, we'll travel to Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques. Once there, we'll visit its imposing medieval castle and, of course, wander through its beautiful historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The tour will take us to Guimarães' main attractions, such as Largo da Oliveira, the heart of the city, its medieval squares, and the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, a 15th-century stately residence inspired by Norman architecture.
Finally, we'll begin our return journey to Porto, where this 9-hour day trip will conclude.
