On this quad tour of the Pacaya volcano, we'll explore rivers of petrified lava and see the crater and Calderas Lake. This is an adventure only for the brave!
Tour Details
After you arrive at the Puerto Quetzal cruise ship terminal, we’ll board the vehicle that will take us on a roughly one-and-a-half-hour ride to the base of the Pacaya volcano. Ready to explore volcanic trails while revving the engine of a powerful quad?
Upon arrival, we’ll equip you with helmets and protective gear, assign you your quads, and provide a technical briefing so you can learn to ride them safely. The route will start easy and gradually get more challenging, so you can adapt to the volcanic terrain before tackling the most spectacular sections.
Once we start our engines, we’ll venture into the Pacaya area, home to one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes. During our 3-hour quad ride, we’ll drive through a landscape that looks like it’s from another planet, traversing solidified lava flows and petrified lava rivers. Did you know that Pacaya rises to over 2,500 meters (8,202 ft) in elevation and that its activity has been documented since colonial times?
Throughout the tour, we’ll admire Calderas Lake, nestled in a mountainous setting that contrasts strikingly with the aridity of the area. Afterward, we’ll continue traversing fields of hardened lava, observing fumaroles, and reaching a vantage point from which we’ll gaze upon the smoking crater.
Although we won’t climb to the summit for safety reasons, we’ll still enjoy magnificent views of the Guatemalan volcanic range and have perfect opportunities to take some amazing photos.
At the end of the quad tour, we’ll head back to the base, and from there we’ll return to the cruise ship terminal, where we’ll say our goodbyes after a total of 6 hours of adventure.
Activity Requirements
Please note that to drive the quads, you must have a valid driver’s license.
