Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll pick you up from your hotel and set off on this tour of Rio de Janeiro focused on the city’s most important landmarks of modern architecture.
Our route begins in the charming South Zone, an area known not only for its beaches but also for its buildings that represent different stages of architectural development in Brazil. One standout example is the Museum of Image and Sound, whose vertical structure is designed to echo the movement of ocean waves.
As we walk through Ipanema and along the iconic Copacabana beach, we’ll share insights and interesting facts about architectural works that often go unnoticed by visitors.
We’ll then head to Guinle Park, an architectural gem that blends modernist design with unique landscape elements. After that, we’ll continue to the Feira de São Cristóvão, an important cultural hub dedicated to the traditions of northeastern Brazil within Rio. Here, you’ll have one hour of free time to enjoy lunch on your own.
The tour will continue with a stop at the Pedregulho Residential Complex, one of the most iconic examples of modernist social housing in Brazil. It’s especially known for its distinctive wavy shape and the innovative solutions it introduced at the time.
Finally, we’ll make our way to downtown Rio, where different architectural styles coexist seamlessly, offering a broad perspective on the city’s urban transformations over the decades. We’ll see buildings such as the Capanema Palace, a collaborative design by architects Lúcio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer, Affonso Reidy, Carlos Leão, Ernâni Vasconcelos, and Jorge Machado Moreira.
We’ll also admire the Metropolitan Cathedral, officially the Cathedral of Saint Sebastian of Rio de Janeiro. This iconic example of Brazilian modernism stands out for its bold conical, or truncated pyramid, design.
At the end of the tour, we’ll return you to your hotel, where we’ll say goodbye after a total of 8 hours.
