At the selected time, you'll meet the guide in front of the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Finibus Terrae. There, your private tour of Santa Maria di Leuca, often simply called Leuca, will begin. Did you know that this is the southwesternmost location in Italy?
During the tour, you'll get to see its harbor, located between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, and the Santa Maria di Leuca Lighthouse. This construction, which stands on Punta Meliso, is over 48 meters high (157 feet)!
You'll visit the Church of Cristo Re (Christ the King), erected in the center of the marina of Leuca, and then continue the walk towards some of the many 19th-century villas that have made this Apulian resort famous. You'll also see the Corinthian column that towers over the square of the basilica and the famous Monumental Waterfall, an architectural work completed in 1939 marking the endpoint of the Apulian Aqueduct.
Finally, you'll enter the Basilica Sanctuary of Santa Maria Finibus Terrae, to get to know this religious building dating back to the 18th century. In ancient times, here stood a pagan temple dedicated to the worship of the goddess Minerva, as evidenced by the inscription of an altar still preserved inside the church.
