Become an archaeologist for a day and discover the impressive constructions and magnificent polychrome paintings at Huacas de Cao: the city of eternal spring.
Brujo & Cao Museum Private Tour
We'll pick you up at your hotel first thing in the morning and head to Brujo: magnificent pyramids built to resemble how the Mochicas saw the cosmos. The site is located 40 miles north in the town of Magdalena de Cao, where we'll make a brief stop.
We continue the road journey by crossing idyllic sugar cane fields until we reach the site of the three famous Mochica huacas: Cao, Partida, and Prieta. We'll be seduced by the imposing constructions and admire the famous polychrome relief paintings on its walls: representations of the customs of that era.
After a short break, we will visit the Cao Museum, where the remains of the former Mochica governess of Cao lays to rest. You'll learn how she helped to eradicate the idea that only men ruled in this ancient culture. The mummy of the lady of Cao still has fascinating tattoos of snakes and spiders fully preserved on her hands and ankles.
Among the vestiges rescued from the excavations are outstanding pieces of ceramic that display the wildlife of that time, the hunting of deer and sea lion, textiles, and baskets. We will also visit a room dedicated to the rituals of human sacrifice, where we will find representations of prisoners and battles.
After a day discovering the cultural heritage of the Mochicas we will take you back to your hotel in Trujillo.
