Explore Bastogne on a private Battle of the Bulge tour, visiting key sites of one of WWII’s greatest battles and uncovering its pivotal history.
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Bastogne Tourist Office, where we'll give a brief introduction to the Battle of the Bulge. This was one of the main battles of World War II, and it took place in southern Belgium between December 16, 1944, and January 25, 1945.
The Tourist Office is located on Place McAuliffe, where we'll see an M3 Sherman tank used in the battle. After viewing this famous combat vehicle, we will head to the Bastogne War Museum.
In this exhibition, we'll see uniforms, vehicles, and weapons from the 1940s that were used during the Battle of the Bulge. After visiting the most notable rooms, you'll have an hour of free time to have lunch at the Bistrot de la Paix, the museum's restaurant.
After lunch, we'll visit the Mardasson Memorial. This star-shaped monument is located right next to the museum and pays tribute to the American soldiers who fell in the Battle of the Bulge.
The next stop will be at the Jacques Forest, where the Easy Company of the US 101st Airborne Division fought in the Battle of the Bulge. The adventures and misfortunes of this company were captured by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg in the series Band of Brothers. After learning about its history, we'll follow the route along the Foy trenches and the castles of Recogne and Rolley, which played an important role during the battle.
Next, we'll visit the memorial that pays tribute to the Native American soldiers who died during the Battle of the Bulge. The last stop will be at the Bastogne War Rooms museum, where we'll learn why General McAuliffe uttered the infamous word “Nuts” during the war, which went down in history.
Finally, we'll conclude this 8-hour tour by returning to the meeting point.
