Why Visit The Temple of Heaven?
Welcome to the impressive Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Did you know that it's known as the Altar of Heaven? With this ticket, you'll travel to the spiritual heart of the Chinese Empire.
This complex of buildings, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was for centuries the sacred place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties knelt to perform annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven. It is a must-see in the Chinese capital!
With these tickets to the Temple of Heaven, you can explore the complex at your own pace on a visit estimated to take 2 to 3 hours. You'll uncover the secrets of its architecture, designed to reflect Chinese cosmology, where heaven was round, and the earth was square. A fascinating display of the balance of the universe according to tradition!
What Does The Ticket Include?
The ticket gives you access to the most iconic structures of this Taoist complex:
- Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests: this is undoubtedly the most iconic building in the temple. With its blue tiles and triple circular roof, it's the place where the emperor prayed for blessings for future harvests.
- Circular Mound Altar: this is an impressive three-tier marble terrace where sacrifices were performed.
- Echo Wall: this is the circular wall surrounding the Imperial Vault. If there aren't many people around, you can experience the curious acoustic effect that allows a whisper to be heard on the opposite side.
