At the indicated time, we'll meet at the main entrance to the Oud Beersel Brewery to begin a guided tour of its facilities.
We'll begin our tour by learning about the history of this 1882 brewery located in the municipality of Beersel, just 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from the centre of Brussels. Today, it's one of the few breweries in Belgium that still brews Lambic beer, a very special variety, fermented by contact between the wort and wild yeasts.
During the tour of the brewery, we'll discover how this beer fermentation process is carried out using traditional methods. We'll also see the barrel room and the other rooms of the facilities.
In addition, we'll learn various anecdotes and interesting facts about the beers of Belgium, one of the countries with the greatest brewing tradition in the world. Why is this drink so popular in the country? What are its origins? We'll find out!
After a tour of the brewery lasting between 45 minutes and an hour, we'll go to the tasting room of the Bierhuis. Here, you'll enjoy a 30-minute tasting, where you'll taste a 10-centilitre Lambic beer and an 18-centilitre beer of the variety of your choice.
This Belgian beer tasting will conclude the activity, which will last a total of 1.5 hours.
