At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to begin this adventure into the heart of the Peruvian Andes. After about an hour's drive, we'll arrive in Chinchero, a picturesque village that seems to be frozen in time.
There, we'll visit a local family that preserves Andean textile traditions. We'll discover the deep meaning of the symbols in the weavings, the natural dyes and the ancestral techniques of spinning and weaving.
We'll continue the tour with a 30-minute journey to Moray. This impressive Inca archaeological complex is notable for its enormous circular terraces that descend like an amphitheatre.
Did you know that the Incas used this place as an agricultural laboratory? Thanks to its different microclimates, they were able to experiment with crops at different altitudes. We'll also explore the irrigation system that made this feat possible—quite an engineering marvel!
Our next stop will be the famous Maras Salt Mines, located an hour from Moray. These salt terraces, with more than a thousand pools, form a unique landscape where salt has been extracted since pre-Inca times.
We'll walk among the ponds while learning about the process of evaporation and collection of salt, an ancestral technique that is still alive today. The colour contrasts between the white of the salt and the surrounding mountains creating an unforgettable sight—don't forget your camera!
Finally, we'll return to Cusco and say goodbye near the Plaza de Armas after a total of 5 to 6 hours of hiking.
