Witches Valley Tour
We will pick you up at 8 am at your lodging in Huanuco to begin this tour in which we will discover the most mysteries and legends of the Enchanted River Valley, better known as the Valley of the Witches.
The first stop will be at the church of the Forgotten Christ. This was the setting for an unexplainable phenomenon in 1986: the image of Jesus Christ on the cross began to bleed spontaneously. We will explore the temple and hear the story of this event which earned it the name Church of the Miraculous Crucified Christ.
We will continue by visiting the Cerro de las Brujas, the place after which the valley is named. Many legends revolve around this mysterious enclave, which is said to have been frequented by witches in the past. You will find out what they used to do here.
As we cross the valley, we will see vestiges of the colonial era such as the Hacienda Ingenio and the church of San Miguel Arcángel, founded by Franciscan monks to lead Christian missions to the natives of the valley. The next stop will be at the house where Simon Bolivar spent the night in 1822 to rest during his campaign for freedom. We will reveal mysterious stories bout the general's stay in this house.
Then we will approach the chullpa de Collormayo, a pre-Inca funeral monument where we will learn about the funeral rites of this ancestral culture. Finally, we will stop at a zoo and a craft museum in the area, where we will see ceramics from the Atash, Acosh, and Chavín cultures, as well as interesting samples of ecological art.
Finally, we will take you back to your lodging in Huánuco, where we will arrive at 2 pm.
