Private Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Kanazawa bus terminal, where we'll take public transport to begin our day trip to Takayama. Ready to travel back in time as we visit this ancestral village in the Japanese Alps?
Once we're here, we'll begin our tour by exploring the Sanmachi Suji district, considered Takayama's historical centre, with narrow streets surrounded by traditional wooden houses, artisanal shops, cafés, and sake factories. Strolling through Sanmachi is like travelling back to the past to Japan's Ero period.
After a break to grab some food, we'll continue by exploring Takayama Yatai Kaikan, a museum that has majestic floats on exhibition, used during the Takayama Festival, one of the most famous in the country. These floats are decorated with so much detail that they are considered authentic cultural treasures.
Next, we'll visit the Showa Museum, which houses everyday objects that paint a picture of 20th-century Japan. Lastly, we can't leave without going to Takayama Jinya, a historical site that was a regional government building during the Edo period. It's the only construction like this left in Japan, and it provides a glimpse into an old feudal administrative system, as well as traditional Japanese architecture.
After a total of 8 hours, we'll say our goodbyes at the initial starting point.
