Discover the ruins of a beautiful Greco-Roman city on this excursion to the archaeological site of Velia.
Velia Archaeological Site Excursion
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Pisciotta or at the established meeting point. From there, we'll head to the archaeological site of Velia, located in the municipality of Ascea Marina. Ready to discover one of the gems of Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park?
Upon arrival at our destination, we'll visit the remains of this ancient place, known as Velia to the Romans and Elea to the Greeks. We'll walk through the agora of Velia, a space that was likely frequented by philosophers of the Eleatic school, such as Parmenides, Zeno and Melissus.
We'll also see the acropolis of Elea and the Tower of Velia, an Angevin construction built in the Middle Ages. Fun fact: during the summer this place even hosts theatrical performances!
Another site we'll see during the visit is the famous Porta Rosa (meaning "Pink Door"), the only example of a 4th century Greek arch and an absolute architectural jewel of its time.
After six hours of excursion, we'll take you back to your hotel in Pisciotta.
