Venture into the jungle and explore incredible scenery on our 4 day tour of Tambopata. You'll also have the unique experience of attending a traditional ayahuasca ceremony.
Tambopata 4 Day Tour & Ayahuasca Ceremony
Day 1
Welcome to Puerto Maldonado! After picking you up at the airport, we'll travel to the Peruvian town's river port and board a canoe to head to our accommodation in the Tambopata National Reserve.
On the first night, you'll just have a light broth, vegetable soup or water, as your stomach must be prepared for the ayahuasca ceremony at around 8 pm.
During the ritual, a shaman will officiate the ceremony and help us to understand the main concepts of Andean cosmology and the mysteries behind this ancient drink. We'll also taste the famous ayahuasca brew, which is made from local medicinal plants.
Day 2
Our second day will begin with a gentle walk through the jungle, during which we'll learn about the main medicinal plants and how they're used by the local Indigenous communities.
In the afternoon, we'll climb to a viewpoint from which we'll look out at the immensity of the jungle. We'll also keep our eyes peeled for birds such as eagles and macaws. When the sun goes down, we'll take a nighttime stroll to look for insects and other animals that can only be seen at night.
Day 3
Our third day will begin with an early breakfast before setting off for the Cocococha Lagoon, where we'll take a 3.5-mile (5.5-kilometre) walk to admire its flora and fauna. We'll look out for the elusive Tambopata Giant Otters and observe the hoatzins, an exotic bird species.
We'll head back to the lodge for lunch and then visit the Chica Lagoon in the afternoon to admire its surrounding area until sunset. You can make the most of the beautiful golden hour and sunset to take some fantastic photos before returning to the lodge.
Day 4
After breakfast, we'll sail to the Puerto Maldonado dock. From this dock, we'll take you to the airport in plenty of time for your flight.
Accommodation
This tour includes 3 nights' accommodation at a lodge in Tambopata. The accommodation is full board, so all breakfasts, lunches and dinners are included (except on the day of the ayahuasca ceremony, when you won't be able to eat anything).
