The Hôtel de Cheusses, the oldest civil building in Rochefort, houses the National Maritime Museum: a unique exhibition on the French Navy located on the banks of the Charente River.
With this ticket to the National Maritime Museum of Rochefort, you can explore an arsenal commissioned by Louis XIV at your own pace. The exhibition features ship models, navigational instruments, paintings, and other objects related to the history of this former warehouse.
Among the main highlights of the exhibition are scale models of historic vessels such as Le Plongeur, La Vestale, Le Royal, Le Dauphin Royal, and Le Météore.
Another standout piece in the museum is the model of Fort Boyard. Created for the 1867 Universal Exhibition, this model shows in detail the characteristics of this Napoleonic fort. The original is located between the islands of Aix and Oléron, off the coast of La Rochelle, and became popular in the 1990s thanks to a successful television show filmed there.
The exhibition also includes objects related to naval health, such as surgical instruments and other items belonging to the Naval Medical School.
A visit to the museum is estimated to last between 1 hour and 1.5 hours, although you may spend as much time as you wish exploring the exhibition rooms.
