Located on the waterfront at the piers of San Francisco, the Exploratorium is one of the city's most fascinating museums. It's a space where you can rediscover science in an engaging and entertaining way.
The museum was founded in the 1960s by Frank Friedman Oppenheimer, physicist and younger brother of J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the creators of the atomic bomb. His passion for teaching led him to create this museum complex with the aim of educating children and adults alike through interactive activities.
During your visit, you'll be able to handle microscopes, see seismographs, discover a tornado simulator, challenge your perception of color, create fireworks in a bottle, and play with the optical effects of various mirrors... There are more than 600 interactive elements to try out!
Through these various elements, you can familiarise yourself with and better understand theories and ideas of disciplines, including physics, biology, mathematics, history, chemistry, and astronomy.
The Exploratorium is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 am and 5 pm. However, please note that these opening hours are flexible and may vary.
