Ready to discover true artistic and historical treasures? We’ll meet in front of the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, where our walking tour of Viña del Mar will begin.
After learning about the church’s history, including the baptism of Chilean saint Alberto Hurtado, we’ll head to the iconic Palacio Vergara. Its exterior architecture, inspired by Venetian Gothic style, is sure to impress. Inside, we’ll explore an outstanding collection of Chilean paintings as well as furniture in Rococo, Louis XVI, and Empire styles.
We’ll then continue to Palacio Rioja, an eclectic-style mansion built in the early 20th century. Today, it houses the Decorative Arts Museum of Viña del Mar. We’ll tour the most remarkable rooms of its permanent exhibition, where fine wall textiles, Napoleonic furniture, Empire-style works, and other objects form part of a collection of nearly 400 pieces. These works offer insight into how Chilean aristocratic homes were decorated in the early decades of the 20th century.
Finally, after three hours exploring Viña del Mar, we’ll conclude the tour in front of the moai from Easter Island that stands at the entrance of the Museo de Arqueología e Historia Francisco Fonck. We’ll talk about the history of this sculpture and the other pieces displayed in the museum’s permanent collection.
At the end of the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the museum exhibition on your own.
