Discover the fantastic Yellowknife Ice Road when you take our brilliant trip. We will drive along this amazing route through the frozen landscapes of the Northwestern Territories which is constructed every January.
At 2 pm, we will pick you up from your hotel in Yellowknife and head to the idyllic shores of the Great Slave Lake. In winter this enormous mass of water freezes over, allowing the creation of the so-called Ice Road.
We will walk, drive, and even lie down, on this amazing winter track which only exists between December and April. During the trip, we will also see the traditional boat-houses that dock on the shores of the Great Slave Lake and we will discover the customs of the local people who inhabit them.
Our trip continues at the fabulous snow castle: a fortress built on the Ice Road itself. The monument, which, for obvious reasons, only remains standing during the winter, is built in a different style every year. You will be able to take a picture of yourself next to its perfectly crafted walls and battlements, as a souvenir of your fantastic adventure.
The Ice Road connects Yellowknife with the First Nations community of Dettah where we learn all about the ancestry of this culture which has inhabited this region of Canada for generations.
Finally, we will head back over the Great Slave Lake on the Ice Road, arriving at your hotel at 3:30 p.m.
The snow castle is only open during March. If you take the tour before March, you will see the castle in the process of being built.
