At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Chiclayo to begin this tour of Pope Leo XIV. Throughout this tour, we'll revisit the years where Robert Francis Prevost was a priest and bishop before he was elected pope.
Our first stop will be at the Palacio Municipal de Chiclayo, one of the most emblematic buildings in the historic center. As we admire its architecture, you'll learn about the connection between the civic and religious life of the city.
Then, we'll visit the Cathedral of Saint Mary Cathedral, a symbol of Chiclayo's Catholic faith. For approximately 1 hour, we'll embark on a guided tour of the inside of this cathedral and its surroundings. Along with its elegant Neo-Classical facade, you'll discover its domes, altars, and details that reflect the region's spirituality.
Our tour will continue at the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Paz, a space dedicated to the Virgin who represented the local devotion and hope. Here, you'll discover its history, its most important celebrations, and its deep significance for the local community. Next, we'll head to the Parroquia de Santa María Magdalena, one of the oldest and most important parishes in Chiclayo.
Around midday, you'll have the chance to have lunch on your own at a restaurant and try some of the region's typical dishes, like rice with duck and causa norteña.
After lunch, we'll head to Monsefú, about 45 minutes from Chiclayo, to visit the Parroquia de San Pedro, where faith is tied with the town's artisanal tradition.
Here, we'll enjoy a guided tour to learn about the parish's history and its significance for the community. You'll also be able to explore the local market, famous for its straw hats and traditional fabrics.
Finally, we'll start our journey back to Chiclayo and say our goodbyes at your hotel after a total of 7.5 hours.
