Treasure troves of gold and precious stones, emblems, ornaments and mummies... Join us on a trip back in time to the Mochica civilization and discover why the Royal Tombs of Sipán are the most visited museum in Peru.
Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum Day Trip
Having picked you up from your hotel in Chiclayo at 3 pm, we'll set off 7 miles (11 kilometres) northbound to the city of Lambayeque. During our day trip, we'll immerse ourselves in the Mochica culture by visiting the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, which is one of the most spectacular museums in the Americas.
When we get there, we'll admire the architecture of the museum, which is built in the form of a truncated pyramid inspired by the ancient Moche sanctuaries. Inside, you'll find jewellery, emblems, ornaments and archaeological remains of the Mochica civilization which was one of the most important cultures of pre-Columbian America.
The museum is famous for compiling the findings from the excavations of 13 Mochica tombs and the first intact tomb of one of ancient Peru's rulers. The exhibition centres on the Lord of Sipán, a leader of the Mochica.
This great warrior-priest's burial chamber plus the exhibition of over 2,000 golden pieces of Mochica art make this archaeological site the most visited museum in Peru.
At the end of our visit, we'll return to your hotel in Chiclayo and say our goodbyes.
