Learn about the Mochica culture on a day trip to the Túcume Archaeological Site and enjoy a guided tour of the Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipán Museum.
Tour Description
At the scheduled time, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Chiclayo and set off for an exciting day exploring the rich history of the Mochica civilization. Our first stop will be the Huaca Rajada archaeological complex in Sipán, where the secrets of this ancient culture await!
At this site, archaeologists uncovered the tomb of the Lord of Sipán, a prominent Mochica ruler from the 3rd century AD. This discovery has been key to understanding the history of pre-Columbian Peru. We’ll explore the site and visit the Huaca Rajada-Sipán Site Museum, to learn more about this fascinating archaeological treasure.
Afterward, we’ll head to Lambayeque, where you’ll have an hour of free time to enjoy lunch at any of the local restaurants nearby.
Our next stop is the renowned Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipán, where we'll find detailed replicas of the tombs of the Lord of Sipán, the Old Lord of Sipán, and the Mochica warrior priest. These exhibits will provide us meaningful insights into the elaborate funeral rites of the Mochicas. We’ll also see the actual mummy of the Lord of Sipán, often referred to as the “Tutankhamun of the Americas.”
Next, we’ll continue to the Brüning National Archaeological Museum, named after the German researcher who dedicated his life to studying Peru’s ancient cultures. Here, we’ll marvel at the extensive collection of artifacts from the Lambayeque, Moche, Chavín, Vicús, and Inca civilizations.
After an enriching visit, we’ll head back to Chiclayo, returning to your hotel 8 hours later.
