On this activity, you’ll snorkel with sea lions at Punta Loma and have the chance to try scuba diving for the first time in the icy waters of Golfo Nuevo. A truly unique experience in Puerto Madryn!
Activity Details
We’ll meet at number 1900 on Almirante Brown Boulevard. Once everyone has arrived, we’ll give you an introductory briefing and provide wetsuits to get you ready for what’s ahead. An up-close encounter with the marine life of Golfo Nuevo awaits!
Just a short walk away, we’ll reach the beach, where we’ll board a semi-rigid boat and sail around 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) along the coast toward Punta Loma. The scenery features golden cliffs, seabirds, and the endless blue of the ocean. Did you know that the Punta Loma Protected Natural Area was the first recognized sea lion colony in Argentina?
Our first stop will be at the sea lion rookery. Here, we’ll put on our snorkeling gear and swim alongside these unique Patagonian mammals. For about 40 minutes, we’ll glide through the water and let them set the pace. The sea lions may swim close, spin around, and even gently nibble at our fins. Did you know they can dive to depths of up to 100 meters (328 feet)?
Next, we’ll head to a more sheltered area of the gulf for the second activity: an introductory scuba dive. Fully equipped and guided by an instructor, you’ll learn how to breathe with the tank and descend underwater. During this 15-minute experience, you’ll feel weightless as marine life moves just inches away. Silvery fish, ribbon-like swaying seaweed, and curious underwater gardens await.
Finally, we’ll return to the meeting point, where the activity will end after around 3 hours of adventure.
Departure Time
The activity schedule is flexible and depends on weather and tide conditions. We’ll contact you the day before to confirm the exact time.
