On this excursion to Laguna del Toro, we'll travel to a spectacular lake in Salta to enjoy an unforgettable flamingo-watching activity. You'll love it!
Tour Highlights
At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Salta and head west towards one of the most beautiful lagoons in northern Argentina.
We'll travel along the Andes Mountains, specifically through the Quebrada del Toro. During this first part of the tour, we'll explore the route known as the Train to the Clouds, which will give us access to the ruins of Tastil, an ancient Inca city that once was home to 2,000 people.
We'll visit the archaeological site of the citadel of Santa Rosa de Tastil, as well as its terraces and museum. Afterward, we'll continue the excursion until we reach the Toro Lagoon, located at an altitude of more than 3000 meters. Did you know that this ecosystem serves as a habitat for numerous species of birds?
Upon arriving at this place, we'll take a tour along its shores to enjoy a bird-watching activity of Andean flamingos. These pinkish-wading birds inhabit the lagoon throughout the year, but the highest concentration occurs between May and September, coinciding with the coldest months of the southern hemisphere.
During the tour, we'll also see other native birds of the Toro Lagoon. Depending on the weather conditions, we'll be able to see ducks, Andean avocets, and guayatas. Afterward, we'll have a picnic lunch consisting of a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a slice of cake, and two bottles of mineral water.
Once we have regained our strength, we'll start our way back to Salta, where we'll finish the excursion after nine hours of adventure.
